I follow a bunch of people on facebook, youtube, instagram…
various social media. Twitter too but I am rarely on there as much as the
others. I follow a lot of artists and creators in the same trade as me. I like to see what everyone else is up to. Check
out new trends. You know… practice good business. I have two questions. For
those who sculpt and create charms with polymer clay, I see all those videos
with your charm collections and charm updates. What do you do with all those charms
that you have so organized in those

plastic boxes? I love the charm update
videos. I am intrigued by the resin work. I am learning from you. So please…
what do you do with them once you make them? I sell a lot. I turn them into
earrings and necklaces and wear them. My mother wears them. But all I see is
charm collections and resin collections. And Please what do you do with those
resin tiles?
Second… for those of you who promote on social media (which
lets face it, that’s all of us) what is offsetting about other artists that
makes you unfollow them? I absolutely adore the work of a fellow artist. And I had
to make the call unfollow them because while I follow a lot of people on
instagram, my entire news feed was completely filled with them reposting the
same picture over and over. Now I know what you are thinking… computer glitch? No.
these were posted throughout the day, with different captions and different
tags. They filled my instagram. And my facebook. I had to search to find other
images. After a just 2 days of this I couldn’t follow this person anymore. I
completely admire their work. I will look them up on youtube once in a while
but is this extreme? What makes you follow or unfollow an artist? What makes
you click that button to start with? What cross the line?

My sister and a large chunk of my friends have been to otakon multiple times but I never had any interest in attending. That is... until we started this Etsy thing and honestly, Otakon goers are our primary target customers. I don't draw, i dont sell prints which gave us an edge against other sellers in artist alley but I was nervous. It's a big convention and i had NEVER done any type of show anywhere. So, i did ALOT of research, for over a year (looking back i'm grateful we didn't get picked from the lottery the first year, I never would have survived)

in that research i learned a few things. one being theres not a lot of blogs or info about how the convention, or any convention is run that is completely helpful for someone who 1: has never been to the convention 2: has never sold in artist alley

SURE they have their frequently asked question section, but theres fine details i wanted to know. i actually started looking on google for pictures and videos of artist alley just to see what it looked like. I thought i would put together a guide for others considering selling at an artist alley.

First: i live close enough i slept in my own bed. I didn't have to travel, didn't have to book a hotel, and didn't have to really worry about if i forgot something because if absolutely necessary i could run home or have someone bring it to me. I also didn't have to worry about being alone because my friends are here and no one had to travel to get there, and were going anyway.

If you search for tips on artist alley i'm sure you will come across the horrible story about someone who had a bad experience with rude staff members. I was fully aware of her story and decided to jump in anyway. All the staff i met were pleasant (except for one frazzled lady who repeatedly had to tell the same booth the same thing for 3 days, multiple times.

1st: to get a table at otakon you must basically put your name in a hat and cross your fingers. If you get picked you will be assigned a table

*when you get picked you have to pay for your table. it's $150 at this time. AND entrance into the convention is NOT, i repeat IS NOT included. That ran me $70 (per person) for some reason even though this is listed EVERYWHERE its still the number one asked question. I had my sister and friend be my assistants. That means $150 per table, plus $70 for me, $70 for val and $70 for Addy. I'm glad i live here because i never could have afforded all that PLUS travel money and expected to turn a profit. Addy did pay her own entrance fees, i happened to owe my sister the $$$ so i just paid her ticket. Pre-register to make your life easier.

*when you return your contract you will get paperwork from the Maryland comtroller with temporary tax id and everything. This is a major convention, you do have to report this as income for your taxes. so if you aren't sure if you have to do it on your own, or will get away with not doing it, Otakon files the paperwork for you before the convention to get your temporary license.

*You should get there thursday and pick up your badge then. If not you must stand in a crazy long line friday and it's not worth is, and you will likely be really late setting up your booth. Poor Addy didn't go pick up her badge thursday with us. By the time she checked in, then got her artist alley ribbon, then found us in the alley, she was mentally exhausted.

*When choosing your display, know that the tables are skirted with black cloth. This will hide the complete mess you will end up with under your table. The table top however is not covered and you will need some sort of table cloth, whether plastic and disposable or a few yards of cloth from the fabric store.

*almost everyone builds up, and sometimes the booths run together because everyone has those wire cubed bookshelfs and they arrange them how they want and cover them with so much stuff you can't get a good look! I chose not to build up, which worked really well with my location. I wasn't burried behind 5 feet of merchandise. I was not only approachable to my customers, i could see them clearly and help them faster. This worked well with having an assistant as well, sometimes we were both waiting on customers and still had a line. I cant imagine being buried behind shelves and poles and everything hanging. I DO wish i could come up with a better way to display my scarves though. But i think it worked well enough.

* You can take your things in through the loading dock, but you have to tell the security where you are going and everyone is very friendly. They open the gate, you drive in, someone is there directing you where to go. When you get inside though, know where you are going. I was able to take my stuff in friday at 10 and be completely set up quickly. my mom dropped me off so i didn't have to worry about dumping my stuff and then finding parking. But even if i had that wouldn't have been too bad.

*organization is your friend, know what you have, where it is, and how to get easy access, you will need odd things at odd moments, and to restock quickly. I got two small boxes with drawers that are hidden behind my button board with all the essentials. Hand sanitizer, extra cards, pens, scissors, yarn needles...

*someone does some around at the opening of the convention to talk to you, and check to make sure that 1: you comply with the 50/50 rule of fan art to original art and 2: that you are in fact selling fan art. I sell crochet but had pokemon and mario arm warmers, cell phone pockets, clay earrings and my buttons had anime and cosplay references. Make sure you do have fan art, thats what people are looking for, but also we sell quirky items so it was great.

*buttons sell more than you think. I want to say we sold about 3-400 buttons that weekend. And at this point in time i have no buttons that are graphic based, so they were very different from the buttons everyone else sold. I will have graphic based buttons, but everyone there had their verson of kirby, or my little ponies.

*figure out what your niche is and how to represent it best. know that what you want to sell may not be what you will actually sell. do your homework. Dont just go on a whim. this is a business venture, don't go in blind. And remember, fan art, doesn't necessarily mean anime. Many people were cosplaying as almost anything.
(see addy's blog with cosplay pics here, here and here)

*take plenty of business cards. So many people ran out of them. I gave out about 300 of them. many artists only had about 100.

* pack plenty to drink and some snacks. in the alley there is a small cafe that sold very few things and was over priced. my sister has an obsession with food trucks so she scored us some food but many people were there alone. OR their buddy was off at the convention and left them stranded. I did alot of talking so i had several bottles of drinks for each day since i get dehydrated easy. you can't sell food, but you can bring some in with you.

*You can have one artist with two assistants. Now me and Jessie own the studio together but only one of us could register the table in our names. once you get there that doesn't matter. you can add assistants the day of the event. supposedly you can let the alley know who you want to be your assistants beforehand. I just did it there. I picked up my membership badge then went over to the artist alley registration. I told them then that my sister and Addy would be my assistants. Addy wasn't there that day but she would then be able to get her ribbon on friday without me being there. Every member of your table must sign the artist alley contract. basically you agree to behave yourself and have good conduct. You can have up to three artist ribbons per table, and only two people behind the table at a time. I highly recomend if possible that whether you have 1 or 2 people assisting you, that either someone stay with you at all times or someone check in regularly so you dont have to guard your stuff if you have to go to the bathroom (which for the most part didn't have a line) but this also allows for you to rotate and everyone can participate fully in the convention. I would have liked to have visited the dealers room but it was so crowded. I didn't want to see anything else.

*almost everyone is cosplaying. Even if it's just a pink wig. And you will see some things that can't be unseen, but it's all in good fun. (see above for Addy's three day reviews with pics)

*theres really bad reception so do NOT rely on being able to use a credit card reader. Everyone had problems with it. There is wifi in the building, but you must pay extra for internet usage, so it's passworded.

*i got this bin from walmart, it's sterilite, has wheels on each end. It is practically weightless when empty, and it held almost everything i needed in it. I only had my button board and a box with my yarn items in it that didn't fit. plus my bag with odds and ends. it was very handy in being able to pack up and set up easy, and not have to keep going back for boxes.

* get good rest. It's a long day with alot of people.

*make sure you walk around and see what others are doing. I like to find new ideas, but i also like so see what my competition is so that i can stand out for the next time.

*keep in mind you are sharing a small space with several artists, you may think that it doesn't matter if it's behind the table, but parts of our little alcove were blocked because someone had all of their stock spread out all over the floor frantically putting things together while a friend monitored their table.

*artist alley is locked down at night. I did take everything off of my table but i have easy set up, and i'm used to girl scout booths at an outdoor fair. Some people just covered their table with cloth so they didn't have to pack up. But don't just leave everything out. Theres always someone who will ruin something.

*BE PREPARED, ok so i stole that since i'm a girl scout, and we stole that from the boy scouts. but it's just good advice. do your homework, have good, well made stock. don't half ass this. Make sure what you sell is something you would be willing to buy. make sure you know where you are going, what you are eating, where the closes water fountain is. Make sure you know what entrances you can use and how to get back to your car at night.

All in all i think we did very well, we exceeded our goals, and we could have done more if we had had more yarn stock. I own my button maker and remake buttons as needed so that wasn't a problem, and as you see from the above picture, i have more than enough earrings. Yarn was my priciest item and we just didn't have time to make everything we wanted with Jessie moving to medical school. We made some nice friends. I couldn't have done it without Val and Addy. They were amazing. I will definately work towards doing this again next year.

don't be afraid to comment or message me. I am sure i forgot alot of things. I'm happy to answer anyone's questions about this experience.
This is Baltimore so wait an hour and it may change.

We have a photo shoot planned for today. We are going to bring you some new items to look at in our shop. i have been slacking, as usual. i have items not listed but i'm not sure how i expect to sell anything if it's not listed.... but life happens. we have a new person living with us for the next few months and space is a little cramped right now. that will call change soon enough.

we are running into a dilemma though. if any business partners can let us into some insight here please give us any advise you may have. We want to continue our business. However jessie and jessjess MAY potentially be splitting up and living in different cities (and states) while Jessie completes medical school. That being said if i don't move with her, what advice would anyone have on keeping the shop going? she does all of our crochet and knitted items. and half of the clay. i do all of the buttons and half of the clay and the majority of the marketing. I think it can work but i'm not sure about things right now. We want to continue the shop. And i want to make it bigger. We put in for Otakon again this year, fingers crossed we will get it. If not, i will have to look at craft fairs appropriate for our style of goodies.
To move away or just move out? That is the question.

I have an opportunity to move 8 hours away for a few years. But I'm not sure ill be able to further my education there. It's rather isolated of. A town. I also have hesitations for the loving arrangements.

I turn 30 this year. I need to make some changes in my life but I don't know if its the right choice. It's a really hard decision. I always planned on this move when the time came. But I didn't count on not having people to rely on at home. I built up a program and its hard enough to let people HELP me but now I can't even rely on someone to fill out a piece of paper. How am I supposed to walk away from something that means so much to me? Children who mean everything to me. I've had both adults and the children tell me that if I leave the kids will leave and the program falls apart. I can't walk away. And I plan on comming back. But at the same time I need distance from other parts of life and I want to go to be with my friend. If i go I have to leave my job where I'm doing great. I have to KNOW this program will be okay and that I will be able to return. Any thoughts?

As a side note... Trying to make it a priority has been difficult. But I just need to make it a habit.

In unrelated news! Jessie (the other half of our team) is going to medical school!!! Woohoo! Don't worry. We will still be here to provide quirky knits and craftiness. We are even putting in an application for artist alley at otakon again. I really hope we get picked out of the hat!

I would like to know what you want to read about. I will make it happen! Would you like to see a tutorial? Or a review? Comment below to let me know!

Here is a list of where you can follow us if you are a fan. Some are used more than others, but don't dismiss something that looks like it hasn't been used in a while, new things are comming.

We don't want to bombard you, but we do want to communicate with you, where you are. So if we missed your favorite social media outlet, let us know, we may just live in a bubble and not know about it, or as an oversite, forgot to link it.

in most cases we can be searched for under jessie and jessjess creations OR jessjess385201.

I'll start with our blog. HEY GUESS WHAT!!! you can find us right here. And we thank so so much for stopping by. This is a little more of a candid look into our lives and opinions on things. I am told no one reads blogs anymore, i think maybe they are wrong.

We have a youtube account, right now it has 1 upload, of my hedgie playing. There are no subscribers but we are putting together some videos now and want to use it. I love youtube. I watch it all the time, i like it better than tv.

I am most definately on pinterest. i love it. I use it at work, I have a board with things from my shop, please check them out, and please visit my shop and pin other things as well. This morning i moved my pinterest from being personal, to from my shop. Basically my name changed, but we do alot with scouts and camping, always fun to see what people do in their 'real' lives.

We are on facebook. Here we try to keep the most up to date info on our shop. Whats going on, whats new, whats promoted. I wish people would be a little more involved on here. Visit us, comment, share, add fan photos, i'm on here almost daily, and get every notification instantly thanks to my ipad. Its easy for me to use this app at work, so it's a really easy way to contact us, and share ideas and awesomeness. And i don't constantly post 30 times a day stuff to buy from me like some fan pages do.

Shoot us a tweet once in a while, I love that theres limited characters. it forces people to pick their words carefully, and i dont have to read through rambles such as this blog post right hereFaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-62608535601739135502012-11-13T10:52:00.001-05:002012-11-13T10:54:13.736-05:00New Path, New StyleSo this blog started out as a personal blog of mine, it has morphed into a combined blog of both Jess Jess AND Jessie, and is used in combination with our shop. I apologize if you don't like that. When you run a business from your home, no matter how small, it doesn't feel like just a hobby. With the internet you are your own advertising, your own maintanance, your own blogger, tweeter, facebooker, uplister, photographer, editer. Being creative and creating stock to actually sell is the easy part and one that sometimes takes a back seat. I have so many things i need to check a day that instead of running a seperate blog for our shop, I don't see a need for that. I am one person, well two since both of us now occasionally blog. But I can't keep up with multiple blogs along with everything else. I mean, this isn't our primary income. I'd say it's not a full time job but it is. I also updated our information, so feel free to check that out if you want to learn anything about us.

I'm also going to post a blog with all the places you can find us on the internet. so stay tuned for that!

You will notice (probably not) a new link on the right, from julep maven. Currently I have a subscription and if you click on that, it will give you my referal code to join. If you have a nail polish addiction like me, check it out.

I had a minor interuption from typing and now i forget where i was going with this!

So Christmas is comming up, we made a few nativities that are for sale in our shop. Let us know if you are interested. We would love some feedback on them, good or bad. They are made 100% from polymer clay. We are also looking into plans for our next little scene. Suggesions?

oh! to my few readers, I'd like to ask a favor of you. Please click on that little comment box down there, and comment with a topic, or a question for future blogging. I would love to have a bit more interaction with you guys, so please feel free to post suggestions or questions and i'll get back to you on those topics!
1 yeast pkg. 2 cups
milk
1/2 cup sugar 6 cups flour
1/4 cup warm
water 1 teaspoon salt
1/4 lb. butter 3 teaspoons
cinnamon
Pinch Saffron Raisins/ Currents to taste

Dissolve the yeast with 1 teaspoon of sugar in the lukewarm
water and let
it stand in a warm place. Cream the butter with the sugar. Add the
milk which has been scalded and slightly cooled and then add the yeast. Sift the
flour with the salt, cinnamon, saffron and add to the mixture, kneading for a few
minutes. Place in a bowl and allow it to rise in a warm place to double its
bulk. Shape the dough into round buns and bake at 375 degrees F. for about
thirty minutes or until lightly browned. Originally, these cakes were shaped
like men and women and were given raisins or currants for eyes.
Do you ever wonder what Bubblegum Wrappers and Duck Brand Duct tape have in common?

Well, the answer is that you can use them both to make bracelets and other crafts!

I'm sure by now you have seen the chains made of bubble gum wrappers that are used to make bags, bracelets, chains and more!

SHORT bubblegum chain

Funny Memory: When I was younger, I remember hoarding all my gum wrappers under my bed to make long chais to go all the way around my room. I even remember standing in line at the Rite Aid digging for extra change to get those last few gum packs because I just HAD to make my chain a few feet longer to beat my friend's chain!

It has been harder and harder to find those gum wrappers, so people have been creative by using starburst wrappers and even chip bag wrappers to do the same thing.

Figure 1

In fact, a few weeks ago, my Girl Scout Troop did a craft where we recycled old magazines to make bracelets in the same method.

Once you get the hang of the methodical filding of each wrapper, the rest of the project is a piece of cake!

So, I was sitting here thinking....if we can resort to using chip bags, why not DUCT TAPE!

Well, then you should know that October isn't just about Halloween anymore!

October 10th, 2012 is National Cake Decorating Day!

Here are some things you might want to try today to honor this awesome holiday....

1) Invite some friends over tonight for a cupcake-decorating competition
2) Practice your icing "technique" by making a yummy dessert
3) Try out a new cake recipe or Frosting recipe
4) Create a truly one-of-a-kind dessert recipe that you can share with others! (you can even post it here for us to see)

Even though cake decorating is an art form that requires patience and experience, you can still give it your best try. What could be more fun or yummy than celebrating cake? Let the delicousness begin!

TIP: Let your cake cool completly BEFORE your icing it. Otherwise, you will have a mess on your hands.
Not because photoshop is insanly expansive, but because I'm betting your program doesn't shut down on you every 5 minutes. We (Jessie) had the pleasure of taking a class in photoshop as a B.S. credit filler in college. Therefore, both NEEDING photoshop and getting a nice student discount. So of course we use it to design our graphics for both our shop and our buttons and things. But we have the misfortune of having photoshop elements 7, and my weird computer which for some reason today, decided to forget how to turn it's screen on today. Elements 7 has some well known glitches, but of the computers we have it installed on, mine seems to have the most problems. The program has shut down on me numberous times today. So for the last 5 hours i have been trying to update our banners in numberous sizes, not that hard, all relatively the same graphics just different sizes and arrangments, too bad that i've only gotten 3 done because this program wont cooperate. GRRRR. For all those who have an etsy shop, you feel our pain getting all this coordinated. For all of those who just shop on etsy, always be curtious to the shop holder. The probably put in enough hours to make it a full time job, with little to no pay for it, until their shop hits it big, and guess what.... most shop owners don't make it big, they do it for the love of their craft. So don't forget to stop by our shop, just to check it out, or find us on facebook and keep in touch with us, because not only do we BOTH work our day jobs, we put in 50 hours a week for this etsy business, no matter how frustrating.
PS, this little guy was very cooperative during our little photoshoot.

it takes time and effort to build a fan base, to get people's attention and to gain enough regular traffic that your sales really increase.

What we need help with is blogging. We need to hear from YOU. what you want to see. tutorials? tips? rantings? questions answered? everything you want to see... let us know what that is!!!

Just comment below!!!FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-58293082469270031212012-04-10T22:21:00.001-04:002012-04-10T22:21:08.364-04:00Age, apps & apathyWhy does no one believe that I'm 28???

At work people think I'm 21. Out in the world people think I'm Jessie's mother. She's 25. Granted people think she's 16. But tell me how I'm both 21 and a mother to a 16 year old???

So there's a few things I still need to situate to make this iPad the most helpful to me here at work, like some apps that don't require Internet. If anyone out there is listening, I. Want a blogger app that you can type a blog offline, and upload it when you reconnect. And I love my weather app. But it needs Internet to load. I wish it would store the last known weather for like 12 hours or something. my iPod weather did.

Also, I'm looking for apps which will help me be more visible with my company. I mean fb is great but guess what... People block you and don't interact unless you post all the time. Guess what... I'm not sure what to post, how to go about it. I mean it will be easier now but I also run into the problem where I don't answer my personal fb account and people are kinda mean about it. It's nothing personal, I'm just not hooked on fb. I don't go on every day. I don't get my messages on my phone. I give my email address out like crazy. Best way to contact me since i have an unpredictable schedule, I work in an answering service, so I have no Internet and can't take personal calls because I take like 100 calls an hour, I can't answer my cell in between calls. I won't give my work number out because my schedule changes from day to day. Either email me or txt me please!!! I have multiple issues with phones and being able to catch people on the phone because I don't work normal hours. I do my best to call people back but I always seem to have problems with that. FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-84011461337689726842012-04-10T11:15:00.001-04:002012-04-10T11:15:56.693-04:00Last Friday night
So last night was Friday night. Now I'm the kind of girl who much prefers Friday nights to be mellow, it's not my character to be a barfly or out at the clubs. So last night after 2 close friends had a bad week, and I could use some time out of the house, we went out to buffalo wild wings. I always volunteer to be the driver. I'm not against the drinking. I just don't feel that into it.

So it was interesting. I definitely can't do all nighters anymore. I like my sleep. I Also don't think going out is going to work on days that start at 6am. Nope. I was tired and a little crabby this morning. Well afternoon, I slept until 11. But I had been up for almost 24 hours when I went to bed.

So now I'm sitting at work , minding my business and this woman just called. She woke up cold and realized her window was missing..... Um... Ok. Not broken, gone.

So what's a good Friday night around your place? Do you go out? Stay in? Bar? Movie? FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-53597254180595378102012-04-07T14:58:00.001-04:002012-04-07T15:00:01.774-04:00New things are happeningSo I'm writing this from my nifty new iPad. I never once thought there was ever going to be a recreational use for me to have one. Then I found myself in the position of out being inconvenient to carry a laptop, and sometimes an iPod touch just doesnt offer the same abilities. I have to say I mainly purchased this for better business with my etsy shop. There's also the ability to take credit card purchases for girl scout cookies!!! I have to admit I know it's new but I like it. I don't have many apps yet. But it allows me the ability to blog when the mood strikes. It will also keep me in better touch with my customers to help me build a better brand!

So what I need from you, my readers (all 3 of you) is to know what you would like to see on this blog. How to make this blog better and more entertaining. I also need topics, as random and as many as possible. FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-39860540164312991392012-03-31T14:22:00.000-04:002012-03-31T14:22:44.574-04:00wait... it's april? How the hell did it get to be april so fast? easter is next week!

so i'm thinking about getting an ipad. not the new fancy ipad 3. but the ipad 2. with 3g. see, i sit at work sometimes, having a little down time and i feel like i could be more productive. and since i have completely not had time for blogging or my shop since i found a job (mostly because of inconvenient timing) i thought it might be something to think about.

i almost impulsively bought one the other day but decided to hold off. and in that time i've discovered that while the new ipad is good, and better screen, it eats more power, and would use more of my 3g when i was using internet. it also has reports of running hot and i'd be perfectly happy with an ipad 2 and never know the difference.

so easter bunny.... if you're out there reading this... i'm sure an ipad is out of the question but what about a lovely hard core otterbox case? huh?FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-59098253087807037702012-01-21T12:29:00.000-05:002012-01-21T12:29:38.604-05:00moving on...so, i finished my last semester of my undergraduate career just before christmas, but my roomie has another semester to go. I was very worried about not being able to find a job (any job) since it's so hard right now. but alas, thanks to my good friend Adorably Dead I was able to get a job with her. I'm not sure exactly what part she had in getting me the job, but she gets all the credit lol.

so i've spent every day this week in training. Its been half shifts but it still feels kind of awkward. Im my entire life, i've never been able to sign out of a computer, and be done, go home, leave work at work. I mean even when i worked at the mini golf, my sister, mother, and all my friends got jobs there too, so when i walked out of work i was usually driving someone else there, and of course my mom puts to much of herself into everything so she got emotionally invested, which was fine when bill was there... he was all for making it a better business.

but it's so weird that when the clock hits that last minute, i can sign out and walk out that door. It feels... almost dirty. no time clock to punch. nothing to pack up and put away. nothing.

which is absolutley LOVELY.

so i have been able to come home, and spend the afternoon doing things. except that since i've been sick it's mostly been napping and drinking tea.

i still feel a bit in limbo, because in a week it all changes again. once chicky goes back to school, and i start working real shifts, we'll have to be extremely coordinated. With classes, MCAT studying, crafting, the etsy store, and scouts, oh and life, paying bills, i often forget to do laundry.

and it doesnt' help that the other 3 members of my house not only don't support us trying to move on and grow up, they actually hinder it.

so i'm going to enjoy what i can today. This is my last day off until camp next week so i'm not sure how i'm going to feel in the week do come.FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-15660772146636415372012-01-11T13:27:00.000-05:002012-01-11T13:27:36.594-05:00My first SWAP!!!So i've swaped before. I'm a girl scout, i have a hard core GS Swap Collection!

But finally, i was able to secure my swap-bot account and my very first swap is for fellow Etsyians to promote each other! SO i give you my three swap buddies!

First up is Natalie, (ThatsNat) She is our fearless swapleader.
I fell in love with these pushpins. I for some reason have always had a love for the decor in the little things in life. I remember going to May Day in elementary school and buying fancy pushpins and bringing them home as patterns and making a dozen more. i also did a purple photoshoot once where i painted the thumbtacs various shades of purple and made shapes out of them, just for stock photos.

ANYWAY,

Natalie made these

I think they add just the right personality to any bulletin board!

Next up is Sarah (Pookledo)

She made this

I LOVE buttons. Ever since i was in middle school i wanted to own a magazine and name it buttons, because buttons are so small, so mindless, and yet have great personality and uniquness. I have about 5 huge mason jars filled with buttons, and they are just so fun to make things out of. This year for christmas we made each family a snowflake out of our aunt's antique buttons. I knit a purse that's been laying around, and i've been pulling out special buttons to cover the whole thing up. This is just so adorable. I want one in every color.

Next up is Robin (Robinpich)

Now, owls have been popular for a while, and i have always wanted a pet owl, PLUS it was my school mascot k-12. So i have a love of owls. So i am very excited to see this upcycled canvas.

So thanks ladies for letting me participate in your swap!FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-49329467023753638792011-12-30T04:04:00.000-05:002011-12-30T04:04:59.474-05:00Shake a tree, collect the nutsso i have since the day i was born (ok, MAYBE a few months later) been absolutely obsessed with my family tree. my mom's side of the family is very close, and a family get together is considered small if only 20 people show up. I remember being in the back seat in my booster seat on the way home from a memorial day picnic asking my mom who this was and that was... and how they were related to me. I knew everyone there was family somehow or another.

Well i have an extensive family tree. If you google my name (as we've all done a time or two) it takes you to a wonderful website bobsfam.com. Bob you are my hero. This is my paternal grandfather's mother's side of the family. no less than 1000 people on the family tree. but alas... Ms. Lillie Hayth also married Jesse Kessler.... Both families have been located in the same place in the same town since what i can only suspect to be the dawn of time. I have not had so much sucess with the Kessler's now back to my mom's side of the family. My mom is a Streett. Her grandmother was a Whiteford. Now my families are so large you can find a Street MD. a Whiteford MD. and a Hayth VA. we even have a house on the historical registry. I also have a little MacKenzie mixed in. Now, i'm not so worried that back in the day people married their cousins (twice removed) but i AM a little concerned as to who the heck is going to help me input all this info into my lovely computer program.

I also would like to know... who ISNT related to me because that's a much shorter list.FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-56862642526691586782011-12-27T09:00:00.000-05:002011-12-27T09:00:51.171-05:00Happy HolidaysI'd like to start by saying Merry Christmas. If that's not your thing Merry __________ (fill in the blank). I am one of those people who find it more offensive to stifle people by not allowing them to say merry christmas, than hearing someone say merry christmas. I however chose the title of this to be happy holidays because I am now on my 3rd day of seeing people and having my christmas rotationals, but to you all it's a Tuesday. In my family we go every day christmas through new years and theres no name for it... just holidays.

I hope everyone out there in blogville is having a safe and happy festivious time of year.

I havn't been blogging like i wanted, because at this point i figured it better to wait. So i'm going to give you an end of the season summary.

I can't wait to begin recording videos and tutorials for crafty things, although i'm nervous i might give away my secrets lol. I need your help deciding on what to include in these documentations.

I am letting what few things are in my etsy shop expire, since it's the slow season right now anyway and money is too tight for renewals right now. plus it allows me to build up some awesome stock we are working on. So i'd love to hear what you want to see in the shop!

i'd just like to give props to Adorably Dead for calling her blog this blog has ADD. Because i believe both of our blogs truly have ADD, so i had to come up with a new name.

I'd love to congratulate Ms Holly Hoxter on her newborn baby. And while I DONT have kids, i enjoy hearing the ups and downs of new motherhood, because even the downs make me a little jealous these days. Also you should all buy Holly's book so her baby boy has a good college fund to look forward too lol.

So we did christmas on a budget this year, and made my mom a clay nativity since she collects them. She took it to a family thing last night and now i'm up to about 35 orders for them for next christmas. Can i just say I felt a little weird making the first one. It felt very wrong when Baby Jesus's head rolled across the table and got smooshed. Not to mention when the Virgin Mary kept falling on her back. Jessie felt the need to go to confession after that endevor. however now we have to make 35 more... can we get a hail mary up in here?

I'm not even catholic and i felt the need to go.

SMH.

so anyone got any good new years plans? something i can come crash? Ideas you wanna see in the shop?FaeriePrinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02030224988054742861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163569984771644609.post-22303422182969756622011-11-13T10:52:00.001-05:002011-11-13T23:19:23.357-05:00HAIRY DILEMASo i've been having hair issues my whole life. WHY? because i'm a white girl with curly hair.

WHAT?!?!?! lots of white girls have curly hair?

yes, yes they do. and most either have a good curling iron, and expensive perm, or dried out frizzy curls.

I loved jessica alba's hair in dark angel, before she went blonde and straight. WHY? BECAUSE THATS WHAT MY HAIR LOOKS LIKE. or could look like. Her natural hair is about the same sized curls as mine, but mine's a frizzed out, dried out mess. and hers is gorgeous.

the secret i was given in high school by a girl who's hair i was SO jealous of , was to use products designed for black hair. Problem? I don't know anything about black hair regimen!

Also, the problem was that she had hair like mine but straightend it. I have to know why everyone wants straight hair. am i the only one who loves their curls?

2 out of 3 of my closest friends have curly hair, 1 is my roomie who has beautiful tight curls, that are a little dried out, but she takes better care of her hair than i do right now. The other could also use a little moisture on her gorgeous curls, and her grandma gave her some palmade last year but that can run expensive unless you buy it on etsy in bulk. I was NEVER taught to care for my hair. my mom taught me to brush it dry and never wet. I caught on that this was BAD, but no one knows how to take care of curls in my family (except how to fake them)

and i look at my becautiful black friends who have rich, shiney curls, perfect curls. and they want to perm then straight. WTF?

I'm also looking to cut my hair into something that works WITH my curls so i can show them off more! i have had my hair pulled back in a pony tail my entire life except for a few days here and there.

I need a fairy hair mother.

while this isn't the best, this is my hair, i've had a problem with my curls being weighed down and losing thier shape as the day goes by, you can see my frizz, and also... my hair is getting thinner and it's changing the shapes of my curls.

what's the best way to add moisture daily?

what's really best to wash it? I don't wash my hair every day but how often shoud it? onces? twice? a week?

How often do i deep condition?

and WHY the heck does this stuff need to be so expensive? $8 shampoo isn't gonna fly with me, unless it's a super large bottle. (<--- broke college student ready to graduate with no chance of getting a job and ALOT of student loans to pay back!!!!!! )
